Fig Tree Ficus carica Moraceae

Native to the Mediterranean region and Western Asia, this species of shrub or small deciduous tree was one of the first plants to be domesticated by Man. It has fragile branches, which release a milky sap when broken, and it has large, jagged leaves. Its fruits are contained in infructescences that are called figs. Only the figs from the female plant are edible.
