Gum Rockrose Cistus ladanifer Cistaceae

A perennial shrub that is native to the Western Mediterranean region, also known as common gum cistus, brown-eyed rockrose or labdanum. The stems and leaves are sticky, due to a sweet-smelling resin called ladanum, labdanum, ladanon or ladan that helps protect the plant from drying. Ladanum is currently used as an ingredient to make perfumes and has antiviral properties.
