Also known as Japanese persimmon, Chinese persimmon, kaki persimmon or oriental persimmon, this species of small deciduous tree is native to East Asia. Its fruits, called persimmons, are fleshy with a very sweet pulp. There are two types of persimmons, popularly known as “opening” and “chewing” types, the first with a soft texture and an almost reddish orange colour, and the second with a hard texture and a lighter orange colour.
