There are several pumpkin species, such as summer squash ( Cucurbita pepo ), squash ( Cucurbita maxima ) and musk squash ( Cucurbita moschata ) all native to America. Both the leaves and the stem are green and pubescent. The creeping species and varieties can grow to several metres long. The seeds are rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids that reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
