Broccoli Brassica oleracea var. italica Brassicaceae
Native to the Mediterranean region, it began to be cultivated in Portugal in the 1970s. Its flowers form a head on top of the plant which, together with the peduncles and young leaves, constitute the edible portion. It is rich in vitamins and carotenoids and contains glucosinolates that endow it with its characteristic aroma and taste.
