Broad Bean Vicia faba Fabaceae

Also known as fava bean or faba bean, this legume produces a shallow, elongated and slightly curved pod, which contains two to eight kidney-shaped seeds, commonly known as broad beans. Broad beans, which are made up of about 26% protein, are an excellent source of this important nutrient. The plant produces nodules in its roots that harbour nitrogen-fixing bacteria, and for this reason it is considered to enrich the soil.
