Common Bean Phaseolus vulgaris Fabaceae

First domesticated in Central and South America, it is estimated that there are more than 1000 varieties of this legume. The bean plant produces purple, white or pink flowers, from which pods grow that contain four to six beans. Depending on the variety, common beans can come in different shapes, sizes and colours. They are rich in protein, fibre, potassium, magnesium and iron, and their consumption helps prevent diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
