Turnip Brassica rapa subsp. rapa Brassicaceae
The edible sections of this plant, which is native to Central Asia, are the root, leaves and inflorescences, which are called turnip, turnip greens and turnip sprouts, respectively. Throughout the plant’s life cycle, the turnip and the turnip greens are produced in the vegetative phase, whereas the sprouts appear in the reproductive phase. Turnips are rich in phosphorus, sodium, calcium and potassium, while turnip greens and sprouts are a good source of vitamin C.
