Pepper Capsicum annum Solanaceae
Native to the Northern zones of South America, Central America and Mexico, it is also known as bell pepper, sweet pepper or capsicum. Peppers are known for a mixture of a sweet and spicy flavour. The intensity of the spicy flavour varies in function of the pepper variety and is related to the concentration of capsaicin, a substance that acts on the nerve cells in the mouth, causing a burning sensation. It is one of the richest foods in vitamin C.
