Chives Allium schoenoprasum Amaryllidaceae

This perennial herbaceous plant produces edible bulbs, leaves and flowers. The bulbs are about 1 cm in diameter. The leaves are green, cylindrical and hollow and the flowers are light violet and bell-shaped. It is recognised for its spicy flavour that is similar to onion, but lighter and more delicate. It is rich in vitamins K, A and C and protects against prostate cancer.
