Tea Plant Camellia sinensis Theaceae
Native to Asia, it is also called tea shrub, since its leaves are used to make this ancient drink. The plant can grow to the size of a tree, but in cultivated areas, due to frequent pruning, it does not exceed 1.5 m in height. The chemical composition of the leaves varies with age. As such, they are selectively harvested to produce different types of tea. In Europe it is only cultivated in the Azores archipelago.
